Man Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Stealing N200 (Read full details)

An Osun state High Court has sentenced a 35-year- old artisan, Kayode Idowu to death by hanging for armed robbery and murder.

Daily Post reports that Idowu and his partner, Femi Adebowale, were arraigned by the police before the court on three counts of conspiracy, murder and armed robbery.

Idowu, was said to have broken into the apartments of one Mrs. Rachel Aina Ogbomoniyi and Florence Ajayi at about 1am on August 3, 2009 and found N200 from Aina’s room.

The accused and his partner, Adebowale were said to have stolen the N200 and headed to another room where they found Ajayi and eventually killed her.

According to accounts by the persecuting counsel, Mr. Moses Faremi, the convict and the second accused person who later died during the trial, forcefully entered the house of deceased in the mid-night and they were asked for the money and deceased told them she didn’t have money after they left, the deceased was later found in a pool of blood.

The counsel said the offence were contrary to sections (1) (2) (9) and 319 of the criminal Code Cap. 34 Volume 2 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The state’s witness, who was also robbed by the men told the court she was able to recognize the men when asked to come and identify the them at the police station.

However, counsel for the convicts, Sade Ipede, of the Legal Aid Council, pleaded with the Judge to temper justice with mercy.

But Justice Kudrat Akano said the prosecuting counsel had proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and subsequent sentenced him to death by hanging.

In a related development, a Lady has narrated how she was nearly raped after an encounter with armed robbers on her way to work.

According to the lady, she had taken a bus hoping to get to the point where she joins her colleague for a ride to the office, but her experience has left her in jitters.

The lady who prefers to be anonymous, said she wasn’t afraid when she boarded the bus, because she had seen someone dressed in the Nigerian military uniform, whom she thought was a genuine soldier.
